“Sometimes the mountain
is hidden from me in veils
of cloud, sometimes
I am hidden from the mountain
in veils of inattention, apathy, fatigue,
when I forget or refuse to go
down to the shore or a few yards
up the road, on a clear day,
to reconfirm
that witnessing presence.”
~ Denise Levertov

gorgeous!
Very moving, and meaningful.
I like her point but have never been able to appreciate the way she makes it.>KB
I think its very experiential for her. In other writings of hers I have seen this as well. Amy Gerstler in the Los Angeles Times Book Review added that a “reader poking her nose into any Levertov book at random finds herself in the presence of a clear uncluttered voice—a voice committed to acute observation and engagement with the earthly, in all its attendant beauty, mystery and pain.” Thanks for you post.
